Williams Operating Corporation, a Barrick Gold Mine located near Marathon, Ontario, is currently recruiting for a:
Underground Mine Superintendent
Accountable for leading the underground mining department to optimize the sustainable extraction of ore and waste from the underground at the Williams Operating Corporation (WOC) Hemlo site. Manage all aspects of production, development, services, paste fill, mobile and fixed plant maintenance and construction in a safe, productive and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure all programs, personal actions and approaches support Barrick’s goals for safety and sustainability.  Act as a safety champion and constantly apply the principals and spirit of Courageous Safety Leadership and Courage to Care.
  • Developing the underground workforce (employees and contractors) to lead in safety and environmental practices for a positive health, safety and environmental compliance culture
  • Ensure that the underground workforce work in a manner and with the protective devices, measures and procedures required by regulatory requirements and Barrick standards
  • Directly supervise front line leaders in the mining, maintenance (underground mobile and site fixed plant) and contract mining functions Coach and mentor people to reach their full potential
  • Ensure the mine development and operational activities comply and meet plan specifications
  • Identify and implement measures or changes to improve production methods, equipment performance and use of equipment to increase efficiency of department and entire mine.
  • Work collaboratively with the Mine Technical Services and Processing Departments and ensure production is in line or exceeds budget/forecast
  • Responsible for contributing to the development of the operating and capital annual budget and life of mine plan and for execution of the plan on an annual basis
Job Requirements
  • Qualifications include:
  • B.Eng. in Mining Engineering
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in supervision of mining operations
  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in underground hard rock mining
  • Understanding of technical and operating processes relevant to mine planning and scheduling
  • Sound understanding of Ontario mining regulation and statutory responsibilities
  • Strong communication and leadership skills

The Hemlo property consists of Williams Operating Corporation, an underground and open pit mine, located approximately 350 kilometers east of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
