Position Description:
 
Barrick is looking for a Superintendent, Underground Maintenance to join our team.
 
Purpose:
 
The Superintendent, Underground Maintenance will be responsible for guidance and analysis of mine maintenance programs and initiatives. This includes ensuring the availability and quality operation of all equipment while optimizing maintenance costs and driving technological improvements. The position will provide leadership on issues such as human resources and safety and facilitating effective communication at all levels. The Superintendent, Underground Maintenance will ensure clearly defined safety objectives, policies, and procedures to drive efficiency and optimization improvements. 
 
 
Responsibilities:
 
Reporting to the General Manager, the Underground Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for the following:
 
  • Responsible for planning, analysis and implementation of maintenance activities required to attain a cost-efficient, loss-free and high-quality maintenance program.
  • Stay abreast of new maintenance concepts and technology. Introduce the most up-to-date maintenance practices to improve availabilities, reduce costs and make advances in productivity.
  • Strong analytical background in the use of various ERP/CMMS systems, in order to drive improvements and efficiencies in Preventative/Predicative Maintenance models (Oracle eAM)
  • Contribute to overall mining efficiency by overseeing maintenance needs assessments and facilitating communications between mining operations and company management with regard to meeting identified needs.
  • Develop plans to optimize equipment availability and efficiency. Ensure annual maintenance costs are at or below forecast costs. Provide guidance for continual improvement of the maintenance program.
  • Contribute to the operation’s profitability by developing, implementing and facilitating preventative and predictive maintenance best practices.
  • Ensure necessary maintenance records to update and enhance maintenance programs. Monitor maintenance programs and recommend improvements. Continually evaluate cost effectiveness based on the quality of results.
  • Analyze daily, weekly, monthly and annual maintenance reports to insure site is operating within overall maintenance and budget expectations.
  • Prepare reports and budgets that summarize and forecast maintenance activity.
  • Coordinate maintenance activities and cooperate with operations, safety and engineering departments to insure workable and cost effective mine plans are developed and followed, and safety goals are achieved.
  • Plan, schedule, budget and monitor overhauls.
     
  • Establish and/or maintain standards for maintenance work. Achieve consistent performance standards through effective leadership and guidance.
  • Ensure timely and consistent application of maintenance policies and security plans.
  • Provide effective leadership in a manner that encourages a participative working environment with excellent communication channels in all directions.
  • Provide input on hiring and developmental needs of maintenance employees. Assist in the instruction of employees regarding work procedures and safety policies. Coordinate system training for maintenance personnel.
     
    Qualifications:
     
  • A degree in mechanical or electrical engineering is preferred.
  • A minimum of ten (10) years progressive mine maintenance experience is required.
  • Experience in the operations and maintenance management of mine shaft, hoisting and pumping systems required
  • Demonstrated superior ability in planning and directing maintenance operations required.
  • A strong background in predictive and preventative maintenance systems is required.
  • A background that includes mobile, fixed, and electrical maintenance is preferred as well as proficiency in conducting failure analysis and root cause investigation.
  • Computer literacy including MS Excel, MS Word, MS Protect, and MS Outlook.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance systems is preferred.

  • Have good administrative skills and be an effective organizer of both people and programs.
  • Able to foster teamwork and cooperation through engaging others. Demonstrate by example a commitment to excellence and hard work with a team approach toward accomplishment of goals.
  • Demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare reports in an accurate and understandable format. Seeks out and accepts feedback and listens.
  • A creative and innovative approach to cost control is essential. Possess a desire to improve.
  • Must display the ability to critically analyze information, evaluate alternatives, and make clear decisions in a timely manner while keeping superiors informed.

The Turquoise Ridge property is located in the Potosi Mining District, about 43 miles northeast of Winnemucca, Nevada. Barrick is the operator and 75% owner of the mine with Newmont owning the remaining 25%.
