Position Description:
 

Barrick is looking for a Technical Services Superintendent to lead the Underground and Open Pit technical support teams through a step change in operational effectiveness and technical excellence.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Promote safe work practices and ensure compliance to health and safety procedures, and the Occupational Health and Safety Acts and Regulations

  • Lead both underground and open pit technical support teams, enabling their development and establishing a performance culture

  • Provide technical support for mine design, operational activities and projects

  • Track Technical Services operating costs and ensure adherence to budget. Participate in regular mine site cost reviews, and assist in any analysis required

  • Report out on operational metrics and provide recommendations on improving operational effectiveness

  • Ensure compliance to geotechnical programs, working to continually improve stope stability and extraction success

  • Ensure robust planning activities are taking place for the short and long term planning cycles, involving all stakeholders and fully leveraging the site’s Short Interval Control (SIC) and Schedule Optimization softwares.

  • Ultimately accountable for the Life of Mine (LOM) business and operating plans and their subsequent budgets

  • Work closely with stakeholders to ensure continuous improvement in stope recovery/dilution, operational productivity, full use of geological information, etc

  • Keep abreast of innovations and best practices in the mining industry

 Qualifications:
  • Degree in Mining Engineering, or other related Engineering degree Required

  • Member of professional association, or eligible to become a member

  • A minimum of ten years of underground Mining Engineering experience required, with a minimum of 3 years in a management role. Experience with Open Pit mining an asset.

  • Strong technical knowledge of underground and open pit mining, including: design, planning, geotechnical, drill and blast, backfill, ventilation, and dewatering.

  • Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles and a demonstrated knowledge of Canadian/American Engineering standards

  • Strong presentation and verbal skills. Able to communicate ideas and recommendations in both written and verbal forms across all levels of the organization in a clear manner

  • Excellent time and productivity management skills
  • Excellent computer skills including: Microsoft Office, Vulcan, and Deswik

  • Proven ability to lead teams in a safe and efficient manner

The Hemlo property consists of Williams Operating Corporation, an underground and open pit mine, located approximately 350 kilometers east of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
