Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.

Position Objective

Reporting directly to the Capital & Projects Manager we seek to recruit an experienced Engineering Projects Superintendent. This role will be responsible for providing leadership and direction for all engineering activities related to construction projects onsite.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Management of the Engineering team to ensure safe, efficient, and accurate execution of their duties.
• Ensure that all phases of engineering projects are managed in a professional manner, including scoping, qualification, design, estimating and approval.
• Ensure that engineering designs are compliant to relevant standards and/or recognised industrial practices.
• Management of engineering budgets, contractors and consultants, and procurement management activities including equipment/material specifications.
• Hands-on experience or background in Construction and/or Construction management highly desirable.
• Ability to certify or, willingness to work towards certification of Structural designs, rectification or plans.
• Development and implementation of systems and processes to ensure assets meet appropriate engineering standards, and communicate to management non-compliances, costs and strategies to rectify.
• Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
• Develop technical and commercial proposals for planned capital projects.
• Provide technical services as requested from mine site operational departments.
• Understand compliance requirements of PNG statutory Acts and Regulations relevant to PJV’s business operations
• Demonstrated ability to work with other professionals including engineers, technicians and contract administrators in a multi-disciplined environment.

To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:

• Recognised Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in a site construction or fabrication environment
• Proven experience in a senior engineering supervisory role in heavy industry
• An ability to work with minimal supervision and provide mentorship for less experienced professionals and technicians/trades
• The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees
• Current drivers licence

Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. Alternatively the Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 16 days on, 12 days off.
