BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. Position Objective

We seek to recruit an experienced Senior High Voltage Equipment and Distribution Specialist who is responsible for the management and maintenance of High Voltage Equipment and Distribution at Porgera and Hides Power Station sites. This includes the Hides Transmission Line and the underground high voltage distribution. This role will report direct to the Fixed Plant Maintenance Manager.

Management of high voltage equipment and distribution will include providing technical assistance as required, development of reliability strategies, asset integrity strategies including replacement / refurbishment strategies and governance management of high voltage practices including safe systems of work such as High Voltage Isolation and access (HVIA).

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Implement and support site-wide and corporate systems to meet agreed service delivery levels
• Develop, implement and review HV and Distribution reliability strategies and spares holdings for installed equipment.
• Expedite emergency repairs to the 132kV Hides Transmission Line and other critical HV reticulation infrastructure.
• Provide technical support to the Electrical and Power Generation teams as required.
• Develop 1, 5 and 10 year plans for refurbishment / replacement of HV assets at end of life (operationally and economically)
• Provide leadership and governance over HV operating practices and safe systems of work (HVIA)
• Guide the electrical maintenance team in the completion of specialist tasks, to ensure achievement of the electrical maintenance plan.
• Manage or assist in the management of shutdowns and projects as required
• Manage the local community power supply in a culturally sensitive manner.
• Monitor maintenance systems and performance measures and formulate alternatives and improvements to systems and methods.
• Ensure work is conducted in a safe manner and any safety issues are remedied and/or promptly reported.
• Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in an environmentally sustainable manner.
• Liaise with Maintenance Planning regarding work plans to allow adequate preparation time for work and task allocation.
• Cascade plan and objectives through the team to ensure all activities are focused on agreed outcomes.
• Ensure any necessary approvals are obtained from regulators and authorities prior to commencement of electrical installations or modifications.

To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:

• Recognised tertiary qualifications in Engineering or Trade equivalent
• Minimum 10 years’ experience as a qualified Electrical Tradesman in an Industrial or Mining workplace.
• Minimum 7 years’ experience in high voltage switching & equipment
• Good knowledge of Power Line construction methods and technical standards
• Broad skills in handling and repair of Power Line using tools and rigging equipment
• Operation of radio and satellite communication equipment
• Demonstrated ability to lead a team safely and improve team safety awareness
• High level understanding of all relevant legislation affecting the employment and safety of persons in the mining industry in PNG
• The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees;
• Proven experience in a supervisory role in relative technical area.
• Certificate IV Training and Assessment (preferable).
• Current Drivers Licence.

Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. Alternatively the Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 16 days on, 12 days off.
