Position Description:
 
Barrick is looking for a Shaft Engineer to join our team.
 
Responsibilities:
 Reporting to the site Project Chief Engineer, the Shaft Engineer, is responsible for the following:
 

  • The successful candidate will help ensure that contractors shaft sinking crews will align with site environmental, health, safety, and loss control systems
  • Promote a culture of fair and transparent relationships with not only contractor shaft sinking crews but the Third Shaft project team as well
  • Ensure that proper training and continuous improvement are integrated into the project execution
  • Perform various duties such as survey data verification, plumb line records and verification, project data collection, concrete pour QA/QC, ensure contractor compliance with engineering designs, assist with rock mass classification decisions
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • This role is a project based role and work schedule maybe modified to meet the project needs

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mining or Geotechnical Engineering or equivalent experience required
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience at an underground mine required
  • Five (5) years of experience in the mining industry preferred
  • Shaft Sinking Experience preferred
  • Understanding of geotechnical and ventilation issues in an underground mine required
  • Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of this position required
  • Three (3) years’ experience in a supervisory or lead role preferred
  • Sound understanding and support of underground safety and environmental initiatives required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • Excellent safety and attendance record required
  • Demonstrated capacity to execute and hold self and others accountable for results required
  • Ability to utilize electronic systems and basic understanding of Microsoft Office products required
  • Basic understanding of scheduling software such as Primavera P6 preferred
  • Ability to read and execute engineering drawings required
  • Exposure/Comfort with rock mass classification systems in support of Ground Control Management Plan preferred

The Turquoise Ridge property is located in the Potosi Mining District, about 43 miles northeast of Winnemucca, Nevada. Barrick is the operator and 75% owner of the mine with Newmont owning the remaining 25%.
