Position Description:

Barrick is looking for a Safety and Health Specialist I, II, or III (Training) to join the Goldstrike Safety & Health Services Team.  The Safety and Health Specialist I, II, or III (Training) will be responsible for employee and contractor safety training. This includes classroom training, work area induction tours, Annual Refresher Training (ART), class preparation, development of training material, presentations, interactive training programs and approving all required documentation. They will provide expertise for MSHA compliance related to training, and interpretation of MSHA regulations. Continually improve training programs.

  • Assist with training, onboarding, field audits, coaching, and mentoring of employees and/or contractors
  • Ensure consistent and effective training of Barrick personnel; and Contractors to the Contractor Management Standard
  • Ensure employees and/or contractors are compliant with all relevant Goldstrike policies, procedures, regulatory and enforcement requirements
  • Support Barrick Contractor Orientation Training (BCOT); facilitating, updating and maintaining consistent and relevant training materials
  • Manage MSHA required training plans for all mine ID’s and all documentation related to MSHA required trainings
  • Provide expertise for MSHA compliance related to training, and interpretation of MSHA regulations. Continually improve training programs
  • Perform other duties as assigned 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene or related field or three to four (3-4) years of S&H experience or equivalent education and experience preferred
  • MSHA blue card with surface endorsements required
  • Proven safe work record required
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written required
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software systems required
  • Detail oriented and excellent organizational skills required
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Aptitude in speaking and presenting to large and small groups required
  • Ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies required
  • Ability to cover on call responsibilities required
  • Ability to demonstrate positive VFL, TOPS and field audit protocols required
  • Experience with Barrick systems – RIMS, LiveLink, Oracle, BROWZ, and LMS preferred
  • Experience in document control and filing preferred
