Safety Advisor 

Barrick is looking for a Safety Advisor position to join the Expansion Project team. This role will support of all safety and health aspects, emergency response, security & training (HESST) for the Pueblo Viejo JV expansion project from construction through to commissioning to enable the No Harm principles to be delivered during the construction and integration of the new mining and processing operations into the brown field areas.

Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure all times that the Company safety, health and license-to-operation standards, with the purpose to achieve adequate identification, as well as risk control and mitigation and are in constant compliance. 
  2. Directly support and influence PVDC employees and Contractors to ensure the efficient, and cost-effective execution, no harm performance and compliance monitoring for the Expansion project.
  3. Direct the contractor in Safety by educating and influencing to ensure no harm principles through to completion of the   project
  4. Review FLA and JHA with contractors to identify any potential hazards that have already been identified. 
  5. Review the pre-qualification documentation for contractors, with the objective to ensure strong planning and high levels of compliance from mobilization.
  6. Ensure through sound contractor management practices that onsite and offsite construction activities, in order to are in constant compliance with Company, local, national and best practice standards.
  7. Assist in alignment of the expansion project and operations teams related to Expansion Project HESST processes and procedure to maximize efficiencies and reduce duplication of effort.
  8. Communicate of HESST information to the project teams to develop sound knowledge and understanding of industry best practice through a structured education program.
  9. Culture development and continued demonstration of No Harm behaviors & carriage of Owners Mindset mentality throughout the team.


Qualifications:

  • Qualification in safety, health and training fields
  • English and Spanish language required (Fluent in reading, writing & speaking)
  • Microsoft Office software suite (competent)
  • Other specific recording and reporting systems to role (Intelex preferred)
  • Training requirements as per Regulation 522-06
  • Experience in HESST for mineral processing projects 
  • Experience in health & safety management and support systems through procurement and construction required
  • 3+ years in construction (preferred) and safety management required
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
