Position Description:
 

The Nevada Gold Mines Project Manager oversees multi-disciplinary teams to develop 43-101 complaint studies for open pit mining projects.  Provides open pit mining technical support to the NGM organization

 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Project Management
  • Leads multidisciplinary teams to develop mine plans from resource models with the goal of generating 43-101 compliant studies for open pit brownfield and greenfield growth projects.

  • Integrates geotechnical and hydrology data into optimized pit design criteria.

  • Utilizes pit phasing to match mining fleet capacity with the goal of enhancing NPV.

  • Provides written and verbal communication on work progress to support consolidated reporting to senior leadership

  • Technical Support

  • Canvasses industry best-practices and technologies for possible deployment within the region with focus on methods for mining lower-grade ores economically.

  • Collaborates with Mineral Resource Management teams to develop drilling programs for early-phase exploration programs with the objective of generating adequate geo-technical information to support conceptual mine planning.

  • Develops innovative mining alternatives that unlock hidden value to aid in the formation of mergers or accretive acquisition of target properties.

  • Assesses mining risks within LOM growth plan and recommends options for mitigation.

  • Provides mentoring to junior mining engineers working with NGM.

     
Qualifications:
  • BS in Mining Engineering minimum, MS or PhD desirable.
  • Fluency in mine planning software packages with relevant applications such as Vulcan, Deswik, Whittle, AutoCAD, Ventism, Leapfrog, and Microsoft Office Suite

  • Five (5) years’ experience in the mining industry required with life-of-mine planning experience is required.

  • Five (5) years’ experience leading multidisciplinary teams tasked with developing mineral resource projects into mines.

  • Solid working knowledge of unit operations and key drivers of production for the Nevada Gold Mines portfolio.

  • In-depth understanding of best open pit mining practices for Nevada’s stratigraphy.

  • Strong proven oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to present and publish high-quality work.

  • Maintain a valid driver’s license issued by the state.

About Nevada Gold Mines
 

Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.

 

The massive mining operation comprises 8 mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities that produced an estimated 4 million ounces of gold in 2018. Three of these assets are Tier One gold mines: Barrick’s Cortez; the combination of Barrick’s Goldstrike and Newmont Goldcorp’s Carlin; and the combination of Barrick’s Turquoise Ridge and Newmont Goldcorp’s Twin Creeks. In addition, Barrick’s Goldrush-Fourmile project has the potential to become the fourth Tier One asset in this portfolio. The new JV is expected to generate around $5 billion in cost savings over the next five years. Nevada Gold Mines is operated by Barrick.
