Position Description:
 

Barrick is looking for an Open Pit Ore Control Technician to join our team.  The Open Pit Ore Control Technician will be responsible for sampling drill cuttings from production drill rigs and installing/retrieving blast movement monitors from blast patterns.  Work is in an outdoor, mine setting, which may include exposure to large equipment, proximity to highwalls, working on uneven surfaces, working in extreme temperatures. A successful candidate must demonstrate safety as a priority. Personal protective equipment is required when performing this work.

 
Responsibilities:
  • Safely and effectively sample blasthole from drill cuttings/cones using proper methodologies for sample integrity. Record, validate, and reconcile sample submission.

  • Safely and effectively install and detect blast movement monitors on blast patterns while maintaining awareness of equipment operating in the immediate area.

  • Work closely with the laboratory department to facilitate sample drop-offs and maintain proper documentation of samples submitted.

  • Run Trimble survey equipment to collect accurate data.

  • Skilled in planning, prioritizing and scheduling daily work assignments.

  • Be able to operate four-wheel drive vehicle.

  • Ability to use Microsoft office and Excel.

  • Can read OC blockout maps and accurately check OC field control.
  • Can read blast patterns.
  • Able to keep accurate inventory of sampled blastholes.
  • Perform other duties as required.  
Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED. required.
  • Previous surveying experience is preferred.
  • Valid drivers’ license is required.
  • Mining experience is preferred.
  • Ability to carry at least 30 pounds required.
  • Perform job responsibilities with integrity under minimal to no supervision required.

  • Proven attention to detail with a high level of accuracy required.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and office management skills required.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently required.
  • Demonstrated well-developed interpersonal skills, with a courteous and pleasant customer service focus required.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and radio communication skills required.
  • Capability to multi-task, self-manage and self-motivate required.
  • Demonstrated good attendance and performance records with the ability to maintain these same standards required.
  • Willingness to work weekends and possible overtime required.

  • Willingness to work in inclement weather conditions required.
