The Database Administrator will perform administrative and technical duties in support of Geology and Geotechnical data sets. Work assignments are sophisticated in nature, where considerable judgment, tact, accuracy, and initiative are required in resolving problems of a technical nature

Responsibilities:

  • A strong commitment to personal safety and the safety of others
  • Ability to write T-SQL queries to import, extract, and report data
  • Demonstrated proficiency in relational server-based SQL databases and data management
  • Demonstrated understanding of programming concepts and familiar with at least one programming language
  • Excellent communication skills, able to collaborate with a diverse group of peers and technical specialists
  • Self-motivated, organized, and effective at prioritizing effort so that focus is on highest value activities
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and organization skills with the ability to work under limited supervision
  • Innovative, always looking for ways to improve technical excellence of the team. 
  • Experience and proficiency with MS Office products
  • Must maintain the confidentiality of information

Essential Functions:

  • Organize and manage all aspects of the Nevada Gold Mines databases (including assay, geologic, geotechnical, and location information) and provide relevant information to functions.
  • Ensure integrity of data residing in the mission critical, department databases.
  • Interact positively with clients, provide expert technical assistance and training, and aid in data import, and export to various database customers
  • Install and test new software application versions to ensure compatibility and functionality of current systems to assist application developers ensuring programming techniques result in optimum performance.
  • Maintain current documentation for existing in-house software applications, to generate reports, data listings, and develop documentation for new applications.
  • Expected with training to develop/initiate/lead continuous improvement activities, promote standardization, software proficiency, and inform all involved on project updates
  • After training develop and maintain digital archival systems for all existing primary data such as assays certificates, down-hole survey, coordinates, and logging data
  • Maintain, upgrade, and continually improve analytical tools and SharePoint to provide rapid access to knowledge with real-time reporting as skills develop.
  • Linking SQL data to various applications and analytic tools. Maintaining and updating of datasets, participate and become a key contributor to the way forward
  • Keep abreast and apply new technologies that are fit for purpose within the Database Analytics fields

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or Database Management or 3 years work experience in a database management/programming field.
  • Solid understanding of proper administration techniques for company's current database technology.
  • Demonstrable ability to program in SQL
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work well with others
  • High level programming languages in C#, web based .net, JavaScript, Microsoft Access and/ or Visual Studio a plus.
  • Solid understanding in acQuire a plus
  • Geology knowledge / background a plus.
