Position Description:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Mine Operations Manager will plan, lead, organize and control the operation and development of the UG mine to ensure that the site meets agreed operations expectations in terms of production, cost, safety and environmental objectives.


  • Provide direct management of the site operations including mining, processing, and maintenance and ensure site strategies are concretely linked to the organization’s long term strategy
  • Assist the GM in the formulation of the annual operating and capital budgets for the mine consistent with the company’s established financial guidelines and business planning process.  Extensive knowledge on Underground mining operation
  • Develop and execute short and intermediate term strategies that support the growth of the operation.  Lead execution of strategies on the mine in order to enhance current operations practices and performance.
  • Ensure that opportunities to add value and increase stakeholder wealth are identified and implemented
  • Create a working environment which ensures that employees gain new skills and achieve their full potential by developing and implementing effective training and mentoring programmers
  • Ensure appropriate facilities, procedures and workforce competence to achieve legal compliance, incident prevention and the achievement of tasks in a healthy, safe and environmentally sustainable manner
  • Optimize operational assets and resources through continuous improvement. Drive mine automation and innovation at the site for efficiency and effectiveness. Ability to influence and inspire others, and manage cross-functional relationships, foster cultural and as an agent of change with the ability to inspire and lead change
  • Degree in Mining Engineering required
  • Minimum of 10 years in large mining operations with at least five years recent experience in Underground mining operations. Exposure to open pit operations preferred
  • An excellent safety track record required
  • A high standard of interpersonal skills required
  • Business acumen and sound business operating experience required
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work effectively in a context of constant change, shifting priorities, and conflicting demands, to embrace new ideas and to adjust to a variety of situations and individual preferred
