BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.

Position Objective

We seek to recruit a Community Projects Manager who is responsible for meeting the on-going operational and administrative requirements of the Community Projects Section. The incumbent will provide leadership and support to the Community Projects team to ensure project implementation are carried out in an effective and timely manner to minimise operational disruptions and effectively engage with Porgera communities in the development and delivery of socially responsible and economically beneficial infrastructure projects. This role with be reporting direct to the Capital & Business Improvement General Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage a multi discipline organisation consisting of Superintendents, Engineers and Supervisors whom provide community services to building and civil engineering projects, maintenance of portions of Highway and relocation roads, resettlement programmes, funded through PJV, PNG Government or other Stakeholders.
• Engaging with external stakeholders such as DNPM, EPG and DOW on various aspects of infrastructure projects and identifying of potential opportunities as well as maintaining and developing these relationships.
• Managing external engineering & architectural consultants for the design and documentation of community infrastructure projects.
• Coordinate with Contracts/Supply Department on Tendering of projects including Expression of Interest, shortlisting, facilitating of pre-tender meetings, evaluation of tenders, pre-award/commencement meetings
• Identify areas for operational improvement and implement strategies/systems to deliver efficiency.

To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:

• Minimum 15 years’ experience in Engineering and/or Mining industry with 8 years management experience preferably in Papua New Guinea.
• Recognised tertiary qualifications in Building Construction or equivalent
• Demonstrated ability to manage medium scale capital projects
• Advanced level skills utilising Microsoft Office programs, in particular Word and Excel.
• Competency in the use of Enterprise Reporting Programs (e.g. Oracle) is desirable.
• The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees;
• High level analytical skills
• Excellent communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills.
• Proven experience in a supervisory role in relative technical area.
• Certificate IV Training and Assessment (preferable).
• Current Drivers Licence.

Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. Alternatively the Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 16 days on, 12 days off.
