Position Description:
 

Leevile currently extracts ore through longhole drilling which is typically done by drilling from top cuts to the bottom cuts. Uphole drilling is also a method, which occurs typically on the same level as the mucking horizon. The Leeville Underground Mine is looking for an engineer or technician with an emphasis in underground drill & blast optimization in regards to: designs, loading plans, and QA/QC of drill holes and loading patterns. This position has the opportunity to interact with multiple groups such as underground operations, maintenance, and technical services. If you are able to communicate across multiple groups and get people’s to buy-in while working alongside the people doing the work this position may be for you.

 
Responsibilities: 
  • Constructive conversations with the design engineers/technicians for optimizing drill hole spacing, burden, dip, and dump.
  • Understanding Leeville’s drill fleet capabilities for drilling hole designs.
  • Work with the blasting contract supplier to optimize the loading and timing of the blasts.
  • Capable to reconcile stope designs in software to communicate improvements and to optimize designs by sharing numerically and visually.
  • Work alongside the load and blast crew.
  • Collect and provide feedback from the drillers and blasters on the drill and load plans provided by engineering.
  • Capable to travel independently underground.
  • Regular travel underground and working with the crews on drilling & loading.
  • Reporting to technical services while liaison with underground operations.
Qualifications: 
  • Degree or Certificate – in engineering or drill and blast with 3 years of experience in drill and blast experience in optimization.
  • Previous underground design experience is preferred.
  • Previous experience with Deswik or other design software, Deswik would be seen as an asset.
  • Previous experience with Microsoft office suite.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work as an individual contributor in a team setting.
  • Flexibility to working with changing priorities.
