As part of the Human Resources team, the successful candidate will be support centric adding to our already challenging, yet rewarding, environment strengthening our mining operations. The ideal candidate will possess a background as an internal subject matter expert and consultant on labor and employee relations. Responsibilities:

Safety:
  • Comply with State and Federal legal regulations, NGM Safety and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Attend scheduled or unscheduled safety meetings regularly
  • Complete regular safety inspections of the workplace and audit work practices
  • Inspect work areas for any conditions that are potentially hazardous to personnel or equipment

Labor Relations:

  • Acts as the internal subject matter expert for labor and employee relations.
  • In partnership with key stakeholders, leads development of regional collective bargaining, contract labor and hourly wage and benefit strategies using a consistent approach and methodology across the region.
  • Maintains a strong collaborative relationship with internal and external counsel, site HRBPs and other key stakeholders.
  • Acts as a liaison between employer and the union (managing Boards of Adjustment, updating the union with changes in company policy, managing joint management and union committees, etc.).  May serve as primary spokesperson for collective bargaining agreement.  
  • Interprets and administers the collective bargaining agreement, ensuring that all departments follow the provisions consistently, by providing guidance to site HRBPs and, if requested, directly to management regarding the intent, application, and compliance requirements of labor agreements.
  • Provides guidance and support on the drafting of responses to grievances, memoranda of understanding, side agreements, labor agreement provisions, arbitrations, and other related items.
  • Consults with site HRBPs on findings and recommendations regarding employee and labor relations matters depending on the scope or level of the investigation; consults with site HRBP's on labor issues and serves as a sounding board on people-related decisions, including discipline and performance improvement.
  • Supports the development of employee relations policies; identifies areas for policy improvement and recommends programs, strategies, and other collaborative activities to prevent issues from occurring. 
  • Reviews and monitors trends and potential risk areas for the organization and recommends interventions and improvements. 

Internal Investigations:

  • Provides consultation on company policy for the region, employment law and investigative expertise across the organization.
  • Conducts effective, thorough, and objective investigations in collaboration with legal counsel where required.
  • Supports the use of consistent, quality human resource investigative processes across the organization and supporting compliance with relevant CBA, State and Federal laws and regulations.
  • Partner with legal counsel where required.
Qualifications:
 

The ideal candidate for this position would demonstrate the following primary knowledge, skills, and attributes:

 
Knowledge:
  • Minimum of 7 years’ experience in human resource management in an industrial setting. required
  • BS degree in HR, IR, Business, or related field; Master’s Degree and/or PHR/SPHR Certification preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience resolving complex employee and/or labor relations issues required
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project, Outlook, etc.) required
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in mining preferred
Experience:
  • Experience in designing long-term labor strategies, driving progress against objectives over multiple contracts.
  • Experience in leading negotiations for positive results, dispute resolution, preparing and testifying in labor and employment law matters, and crisis management.
  • Experience in development of high-performance work systems to include change strategies and employee engagement processes.
  • Project and program management – proven ability to strategically prioritize self-manage projects to success and mobilize resources.
  • Extensive experience consulting with managers and employees.
  • Mining, construction, utilities, or other heavy industry experience is preferred.

Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.

 

The massive mining operation comprises 8 mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities that produced an estimated 4 million ounces of gold in 2018. Three of these assets are Tier One gold mines: Barrick’s Cortez; the combination of Barrick’s Goldstrike and Newmont Goldcorp’s Carlin; and the combination of Barrick’s Turquoise Ridge and Newmont Goldcorp’s Twin Creeks. In addition, Barrick’s Goldrush-Fourmile project has the potential to become the fourth Tier One asset in this portfolio. The new JV is expected to generate around $5 billion in cost savings over the next five years. Nevada Gold Mines is operated by Barrick.
