Barrick (Niugini) Limited (BNL) is a company incorporated in Papua New Guinea, and operates the Porgera Gold Mine in Enga Province on behalf of the Porgera Joint Venture partners. BNL is an independently managed company and is jointly owned through an equal partnership between Barrick Gold and Zijin Mining Group. The Porgera Gold Mine employs over 2,500 Papua New Guineans, and over the life of the mine it has contributed approximately 10% of Papua New Guinea’s total annual exports.

Position Objective

The Development Foreman is responsible for the leadership and mentoring of Underground Supervisors to ensure safe and efficient mining activities. The Foreman is also responsible for risk management, cost, quality and delivery of the schedule of the Porgera Underground mine.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Monitor and deliver the shift’s targets and progress with the Development Superintendent throughout the shift
• Debrief the Development Superintendent/Cross Shift on the shift’s progress, achievement and safety issues at the end of each shift, completing any paper work as required
• Achieve daily/weekly development advance targets through supervision of crews.
• Safe efficient supervision of underground mine operations employees to meet projected Development targets.
• Review line up at start of shift (day and night) with Development Superintendent and area Supervisors
• Supervise daily underground development mining activities 
• Recommend improvements to safe operating procedures.
• Monitor and maintain compliance with statutory and Company safe operating procedures.

To be suitable for this role, you will possess the following:

• Seven years’ experience in underground mining operations principally in development mining operations 
• Three years shift supervision experience in an underground mine
• Blasting Certificate.
• Demonstrated ability to work productively and safely.
• Experience in on the job training of underground operators.
• Previous experience working in PNG or other developing countries, desirable;
• The ability and willingness to train and develop national employees;
• Must be able to provide a minimum of two certificates relevant to the role.
• Certificate IV Training and Assessment (preferable).
• Current Drivers Licence.

Your primary location will be the Porgera Mine Site. An on-travel allowance will be provided to candidates who reside outside of Cairns, Australia. The roster for this role is a fly in, fly out rotation on 16 days on, 12 days off. 

The Company will provide assistance as per BNL Relocation Policy to relocate the successful candidate to Cairns, Australia if the candidate holds a current visa to reside in Australia. The offer for this role is conditional upon the candidate successfully obtaining and retaining a visa that allows you to work in Papua New Guinea.
