Position Description:

Barrick is searching for an experienced supply chain leader to serve as Director of Strategic Sourcing & Contracts Management.  This role will be located in Henderson, NV. The position requires approximately 50% travel to both domestic and international locations.  The individual who fills this role will be responsible for leading both the group Category Management and Contract Management teams. This role reports to the SVP – Commercial & Supply Chain.    




  • Strategic Planning and execution of sourcing activities (RFQ’s, RFP’s, RFI’s) to create value across the enterprise.
  • Provide market guidance and forecasts to sites and the finance group for critical cost inputs.
  • Develop and maintain Barrick benchmark data across the regions and against commercial markets for key categories.
  • Negotiate with suppliers to ensure best pricing, service levels and contracts that are compliant with Barrick’s standards.
  • Collaborate with department heads to develop cost savings programs, initiate and manage projects, and deliver savings and improvements to the mine sites.
  • Drive Supply Chain Best Practice through establishment of process improvements, training of personnel and establishment of internal metrics and KPI’s.
  • Proactively and effectively identify gaps in supply chain performance and remediate appropriately.
  • Collaboratively develop and drive cost savings targets.
  • Effectively manage the contracts registry to strategically address expiring contracts.
  • Ensure internal protocols and procedures are strictly followed by all team members.
  • Manage supplier performance and ensure suppliers are delivering on commitments.
  • Prepare and communicate reports to be seen by all levels of the organization.
  • Establish vendor held inventory, consignment stocks and reduce lead times for critical items.
  • Manage the contract requirements and KPI’s with internal stakeholders as well as identify and develop suppliers in the market to support commercial and operational needs.
  • Monitor internal KPI’s and drive improvements through establishing training programs, holding people accountable to commitments and setting of stretch goals. 
  • Execute supplier relationship management, including but not limited to, tracking supplier performance metrics, supplier safety reporting, stakeholder satisfaction metrics, supplier product and technology innovation, etc.
  • Develop skills and abilities of both direct and indirect reports and act as a champion and mentor for all resources in the supply chain organization.
  • Provide guidance and direction to supply chain operations: warehousing, materials management, purchasing and logistics.
  • Know and comply with the current Mining Safety and Health regulations and Loss Prevention procedures of Barrick.
  • Demonstrate social awareness, commitment and compliance with Barrick’s Social Responsibility Policy and with Barrick’s always showing a socially responsible behavior with the Community and with the Company.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance or related field or equivalent experience; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of directly related experience, to include management of large teams of people and large category spend
  • Experience working with a large global miner
  • Relevant supply chain operational experience
  • Strong computer skills using office software such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Knowledge of Oracle, SAP, Ariba, Ellipse or equivalent enterprise level software packages
  • Excellent skills associated with problem solving and analytics
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
