Position – Design Technician / Engineer
 
Position Description:
 

Reporting to the Mid-Range Design Engineer, you will be responsible for facilitating the safe and efficient extraction of gold from underground mining operations. Leeville uses two main types of extraction: Longhole stopnig and cut and fill. You will be responsible for the detailed short-term design of all capital and expensed development, Longhole design with drill and blast patterns, and reconciliation for all designs produced. Successful meeting of your objectives will help ensure that the short-term production schedule remains aligned with the mid-range mine plan, and meets all safety, production and cost targets.

 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Detailed design of capital and expensed development required to safely and efficiently meet the short term mine plan. This includes, but is not limited to the preparation, distribution and co-ordination of approvals for all designs, plans, drawings and other relevant materials.
  • Detailed design of longhole drilling with blast pattern timing, input for timing will be provided from the drill and blast engineer/technician.
  • Reconciliation of all designs produced from development drifting and longhole drilling. This will include working closely with the drill and blast engineer/technician to confirm overbreak and underbreak. Optimization will come from these reconciliations along with insight on best practices from drill and blast as well as underground operations for best results.
  • Conduct underground inspections as required with defined objectives prior to such travel to ensure objectives are meet in a timely fashion to produce designs in an efficient manner, with respect to both safety and production.
  • Follow-up with all necessary groups from long range, short range, to geology for best time management for a design to meet or exceed expectations and timeframes.
  • Ensuring important deadlines are met and budget constraints are adhered to.
  • Communicating and interacting with all relevant stakeholders in order to ensure that outcomes are satisfactorily delivered and objectives are met.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • A graduate degree or associates diploma combined with a minimum of 2 years exposure to underground gold and/or base metals mine operations and/or projects OR 2 years of underground design experience.
  • A good understanding of hardrock mining cycle would be considered an asset.
  • Competency in general mine software applications, with Deswik knowledge a preference.
  • Strong technical interpersonal skills and able to communicate objectives and plans across many groups.
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills, with the ability to find solutions with a team or independently.
  • Proactive work ethic.
  • Ability to influence others as required.
  • Demonstrated capacity to execute and hold self and others accountable for results.
  • Ability to build and maintain an effective communications network with peers, Mine Technical and Operational Functions and Project teams.
