Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Chief Surveyor at our Cortez operations.  The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring a high level of accurate surveying to operations and technical services teams through leading, training, and development of survey teams; performing survey projects as directed; and perform other duties as assigned.

  • Manage and direct the activities of surveying teams, provide direction and coaching.
  • Support operations through consistent and timely implementation of the daily activities pertaining to the survey function, including the layout and maintenance of survey control.
  • Reconcile survey measures and data reporting, monitor compliance to plan performance, and initiate business improvement processes as applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records of all statistics, measures, and plans.
  • Routinely review mine survey processes and investigate, assess, and where appropriate, trial new methods or technology.
  • Ensure the proper use, maintenance, and calibration of survey equipment.
  • Ensure all survey functions are in conformity with specifications and standards of professional practices.




  • Proven safe work and attendance record required
  • Strong knowledge of surveying principles in underground mining, engineering construction, with surface experience preferred
  • Minimum of six (6) years surveying work experience with tertiary education in survey principles and practices, or (12) years practical surveying experience. Minimum of two (2) years of surveying work experience in an underground mining environment required.
  • Strong knowledge and proven use of current survey software and hardware required, Vulcan or Deswik preferred
  • Well-developed problem-solving skills, with the ability to find solutions with a team or independently preferred
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills required
  • Strong math and computer skills required
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred
  • Ability to work with other departments and divisions effectively required
  • Ability to walk on uneven ground in all weather conditions required
  • Ability to perform all essential functions of this position required

About Nevada Gold Mines


Nevada Gold Mines is a joint venture between Barrick Gold Corporation (61.5%) and Newmont Goldcorp Corporation (38.5%), combining their significant assets across Nevada to create the single largest gold-producing complex in the world and realize the full potential of these mines through synergies and best-in-class operational improvements.


The massive mining operation comprises 8 mines along with their associated infrastructure and processing facilities that produced an estimated 4 million ounces of gold in 2018.
