Position Description:

In collaboration with the regional Communications and Corporate Social Responsibility teams, the successful candidate will;

  • Coordinate the implementation of a comprehensive internal communication strategy and plan in order to improve employee relations and employee commitment to the organization
  • Promote corporate, regional and mine objectives to all Barrick employees to enhance buy in and contribution to desired results
  • Coordinate with all internal functions to establish structure and systematization of employee communications to ensure consistency in the flow of information
  • Ensure internal publications are of high quality and disseminated appropriately
  • Initiate and support programs and activities that protect the image and reputation of Barrick US in general and TRJV specifically

  • Lead TRJV Community engagement and Corporate Social Responsibility efforts in Winnemucca and Battle Mountain

 
Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate the implementation of the internal communications plan. This includes the actions needed to put the plan in place (the action plan) as well as the communications plan itself

 
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with all departments/functional heads (superintendents) as well as with the Supervisory level to ensure information is developed and shared appropriately, consistently and in a timely manner

 
  • Explore avenues to capture all statistics related to TRJV related community effort to ensure the organization is able to effectively communicate the value of its contribution to development in host communities

 
  • Ensure employee engagement is effective and responsive by exploring best practices and innovative approaches to employee engagement and employee wellbeing in collaboration with appropriate departments

 
  • Provide suggestions to the TRJV management team with regard to formal/informal communication, written/verbal/non-verbal communication and other aspect of corporate culture to improve overall employee satisfaction

 
  • In collaboration with the Human Resources function, develop and implement a communication skills training/support package aimed at various managerial levels but including supervisors

 
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of all communication interventions and provide feedback of how best they can be improved. In particular, identify opportunities to formally and informally engage with TRJV employees to verify effectiveness of the approach and to solicit ideas for improvement

 
  • Review existing policies, procedures and approaches and identify opportunities to integrate a Communications component. Where possible, integrate communications requirements into the management system

 
  • Work with the regional communication teams to develop materials, provide TRJV related stories as well as to implement corporate requirements regarding Branding

 
  • To work with the Continuous Improvement team to use technology to optimize internal communication

 
  • Encourage Active Participation
    • Promote Employee Action – Two-Way Communications
    • Create opportunities for Employee Action (e.g.in community events), Visibility-Involvement and Feedback

    • Share News of Successes Across Teams, Mines and Region
 
  • Support the Human Resources function in effort to consistently and effectively communicate with the families of TRJV employees

 
  • Develop and implement a community relations schedule based on stakeholder analysis and a social risk/opportunities assessment

 
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement activities with host communities. Where other TRJV staff is involved in such engagement activities, support such staff with speaking points etc.

 
  • Coordinate TRJV Social Investments in Winnemucca
 
  • Ensure compliance with all Barrick Communications function for external media/press as appropriate

 
  • Manage community complaints and grievances in compliance with complaint mechanism

 
  • Report as required on Communications and Community Relations/Corporate Social Responsibility efforts

 
  • Update the Communications plan as well as the Community Relations plan on an annual basis

 
  • Perform other duties as assigned
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations, marketing or related field and/or a minimum of three (3) years of communication or related experience required
  • 3 - 5 years experience in large organizations, preferably associated with the mining industry
  • Professional qualification in Project Management or Communication Studies is preferred
  • Communications experience in the mining sector or industrial company preferred
  • Experience working with Government and civil society stakeholders desired
  • Communicate effectively in both written and oral forms; strong writing skills including copywriting and editing skills required
  • Prioritizing and managing complex projects and confidential data required
  • Interest in community engagement and development
  • A creative thinker with a desire, willingness and ability to execute engaging stakeholder engagement programs or initiatives required
  • Ability to work varied shifts, including weekends, to cover site and community events required
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a team player
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required
  • Comfortable with public speaking and the ability to withstand public pressure in sometimes tense situations
  • Very strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point) proficiency required
  • Adobe creative suite or similar design platform experience required
  • Key Qualities:  Persuasion power, Diplomatic, Excellent listener, Inquisitive, A good planner – methodical, Results oriented
