Position Description:

Nevada Gold Mines is looking for a Process Maintenance Superintendent to join Process Maintenance Team at the Carlin – Gold Quarry mine site.  The Process Maintenance Superintendent is responsible for Fixed Plant maintenance ensuring standards, policies and procedures are deployed and in place while being met and consistently complied with. Furthermore, this role ensures all equipment performance targets and work management KPIs are achieved within the constraints of the maintenance budget.



Responsibilities:
  • Ensures communication of relevant messages and deployment of key initiatives from Owners to all fixed plant maintenance crews for clear and direct communication.

  • Responsible for the effective promotion and deployment of, and compliance to, all  Carlin Safety Policies, Standards

  • Procedures and statutory requirements across Processing Fixed Plant Maintenance

  • Spend significant time in the field – “visible felt leadership” – interacting with the workforce, ~30-40% of working time

  • Responsible for providing employees with safe and healthy work environment by ensuring provision of safe systems of work; safe work procedures; adequate training and instructions; competent supervision; and safe plant and equipment

  • Accountable for  compliance to Cyanide Code

  • Accountable for the safety performance of the Processing Fixed Plant Maintenance department.

  • Ensures that Zero-Based-Budgeting principles are applied in setting the annual departmental budget

  • Reviews cost performance monthly, including both forecast and variance analysis, thereafter, completing a monthly report submission for the Carlin site Monthly Report

  • Reviews competencies, Scopes of Work and Schedules of Rates for all Contractors ensuring costs are managed and controlled. Has authority to approve contractors

  • Accountable for the cost performance against budget for Processing Fixed Plant Maintenance

  • Accountable for ensuring Availability targets are met through effective maintenance strategies and work plans, and particular focus on the effective management of shutdowns

  • Review  major equipment downtime, and its causes, on both a monthly and year-to-date basis, reporting downtime for the Carlin site Monthly Report

  • Accountable for work management performance in the effective and efficient application of maintenance resources as measured by schedule compliance, PM compliance, level of planned vs unplanned work and the ongoing management of backlog

  • Ensures departmental performance is regularly reported to all crews through undertaking formal end-of-month performance presentations on Safety, Cost, Availability, and Utilisation, including key messages.

  • Review hazard ID and incident reports  and provide follow-up as appropriate

  • Participate in incident investigations (injury, significant near-miss and equipment damage) as required

  • Accountable for ensuring that corrective actions are effectively implemented and tracked

  • Accountable for ensuring maintenance employees and contractors working at Carlin  have the necessary pre-commencement paperwork, competencies and qualifications to work safely and deliver quality maintenance services. Has the authority to prohibit any work from being undertaken unless all requirements are met

  • Support the development and updating of all maintenance strategies for the critical fixed plant assets ensuring that these strategies are optimized at all times

  • Accountable for planning and scheduling for all maintenance activities for Carlin processing

  • Ensuring that business processes are followed and supporting systems utilized effectively. Has the authority to reprioritize work if deemed necessary

  • Complete performance evaluation reviews for direct reports and manage their career development

  • Ensure that succession planning for key roles is in place, has the authority to decide on appointments

  • Ensures Training Matrix is up-to-date, and training provided as required including that stipulated by Owners

  • This includes Awareness Training and specific Competency-Based Training

 
 
 
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 5 years front-line supervisory experience in heavy industry

  • Minimum 2 years budgeting experience in compiling budgets required

  • Minimum of 5 years as a tradesperson in heavy industry required

  • Exposure to planning and scheduling for 2-3 years – as a user or practitioner required

  • Mechanical or Electrical trade or Bachelor qualification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering required

  • Valid Driver’s license required

  • Experience with Zero Based Budgeting systems and processes for 1 or 2 budget cycles preferred

  • Industrial experience of 5 years in Mineral Processing preferred

  • Performed engineering role for 5 years preferred

  • Exposure to Project Management tools and techniques preferred

  • Completed a recognized Management/Leadership Development Program (e.g. Front Line Supervision, Financial Management) preferred

  • MS Office Suite (MS Excel, MS Word, MS Project, MS Outlook) preferred

  • Oracle, SAP, JDE, EMPAC or similar CMMS preferred

  • Familiarity with the Mines Safety and Inspection Regulations preferred

  • Report Writing preferred
