Position Description:
 
Barrick is looking for a Buyer to join our team. The successful candidate will be reporting to the Capital Projects Manager and will be responsible for assisting in procurement and contracts processes for Capital Projects. The Buyer will define end-user requirements, compile specifications, issue RFQ’s and RFP’s, facilitate procurement processes and negotiate purchases and agreements.

Work Schedule: 5-2-4-3 rotation
Duration: 1-year contract

Responsibilities:

• Responsible for delivering on-time purchase orders to meet end-user requirements, ensuring that Capital Project schedules are met.
• Ensure timely and professional service to end-user departments in the preparation and evaluation of bids and RFQ’s.
• Identify and select vendor to purchase requisitioned, meeting criteria such as price, quantity, quality, safety and delivery date.
• Lead coordination’s for pre-tender site visits with bidders and tender review meetings with subcontractor.
• Maintain files of working documents, including tender templates, RFP’s/RFQ’s status and monthly reporting.
• Support the continuous improvement and execution of Barrick’s sourcing strategy, policies and guidelines for service agreements and contracts.
• Acquire materials according to the operations requirements, obtaining the best total cost of ownership, term of execution and quality conditions.
• Liaise between suppliers, relevant internal departments and project customers throughout entire purchasing process to schedule deliveries, resolve material discrepancies, review warranty claims and return material Identify, evaluate and escalate potential risks that could affect project deliverables.
• Develop and foster successful, long-term relationships with stakeholders and key suppliers.
• Issue and maintain the Purchasing Schedule and Procurement Register
• Communicate any significant revisions regarding delivery times to the Project Manager
• Assist in the development of policies and procedures related to the procurement function
• Provide advanced system and technical expertise of purchasing systems and the development and maintenance of contracting templates in accordance with Corporate policy and industry best practices.
• Administer, coordinate and process purchasing instruments (i.e. contracts, purchase orders, etc.) for goods and services. Ensure consistency and compliance with terms and conditions, governing legislation, procurement and contracting policies, guidelines, procedures and signing authorities.
• Record, monitor, reconcile, and report contracting and procurement activities, expenditures and commitments.
• Maintain the confidentiality of all Corporation information.
• Maintain safe working conditions
• Demonstrate social awareness, commitment and compliance with Barrick’s Social Responsibility Policy.
• Perform other duties as assigned and required.




Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Commerce, Supply Chain, Finance or related field.
• Minimum 3+ years relevant qualifications / experience in procurement and managing procurement processes in the mining sector.
• Excellent knowledge of end-to-end supply management processes and supplier performance management.
• Strong attention to detail, excellent organizational skills & the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
• Highly driven and self-motivated, strong negotiation skills, conflict resolution, able to manage a high volume of work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Proficient computer skills with advance skills in MS Office applications, specifically Excel.
• Previous experience working with Oracle ERP system and Ariba Network preferred
• Excellent organizational, time management and office management skills
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently
• Ability to analyze information while using critical thinking
• Ability to effectively plan, execute and deliver.

The Hemlo property consists of Williams Operating Corporation, an underground and open pit mine, located approximately 350 kilometers east of Thunder Bay, Ontario.
