GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsibilities include: The successful candidate will be responsible to identify mineralogy of process, open pit and exploration samples. Key to success, the mineralogist will understand refractory and double refractory gold ore characteristics and how they relate to processing. Will provide timely plant support to understand and improve process behavior specifically relating to mineralogy. Investigate new ore bodies and develop an understanding of their response to pressure oxidation and roasting. Ability to understand proper mineral sample preparation. Use petrographic and other optical microscopy techniques to properly identify minerals. Operate scanning electron microscope (SEM) and powder X-ray diffraction (XRD) instrumentation. Perform mineral analyses using a scanning electron microscope utilizing programmable mineral analysis systems such as MLA. Carry out qualitative/quantative XRD. Write formal reports to senior management with results and recommendations. Perform complex analyses and provide meaningful results to clients. Liaison with exploration, operations, environmental, and process personnel both on-site and at a regional level. Responsible for maintaining laboratory and associated equipment in a clean and safe manner.
SELECTION CRITERIA
BASIC REQUIREMENTS: To be considered for this job, applicants must meet these basic requirements:
• BS degree in Geology, Metallurgical Engineering or related degree required
• Three-Five years experience in a mining or commercial laboratory required
• Substantial experience with and knowledge of computer operation (Labware is a plus) required
• Familiar with automated SEM-EDS systems (MLA/QEMSCAN) preferred
• Knowledge of advanced mineralogical techniques and analyses required
• Familiarity with chemicals and laboratory procedures preferred
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and prioritize a heavy workload required
• Ability to communicate effectively with peers in a team environment required
• Knowledge of state and federal health and safety regulations required
• Exemplary safety and attendance records required
