Purpose:
Reporting to the Vice President Operations Support, the Senior Director, Global Maintenance and Engineering will lead the strategic development, implementation and continuous improvement of maintenance, engineering and sustaining capital project activities for Barrick.
Senior Director, Global Maintenance and Engineering
Key Responsibilities;
Maintenance (Asset Management);
• Develop a strategy to implement a reliability-based approach to maintenance across the company
• Lead the application of reliability centred maintenance (RCM) concepts and techniques company-wide
• Lead the global Maintenance function in accordance with Barrick’s Asset Management Policy, Maintenance Management System, Standards and Procedures to ensure maximum life and long-term productivity from process plant, mobile equipment and infrastructure
• Work collaboratively with regional and site leaders to implement the reliability-based strategy at all Barrick’s operations; conducting regular region and site reviews and providing support and coaching as required
• Provide governance to ensure compliance with maintenance management plans at the operational sites
• Manage the implementation and support of key maintenance information systems and budgeting tools such as Oracle eAM, Pronto and Xeras
• Regularly review corporate systems, standards and processes to facilitate continuous improvement
• Monitor and report performance of the Maintenance function across all of Barrick’s operations
• Develop and monitor a suite of key performance indicators (KPIs) for the maintenance function across the corporation and benchmark these KPIs on an ongoing basis
• Provide training, support and governance over the maintenance budgeting process
• Drive the ongoing communication and information strategy to promote and support the Maintenance function
• Work closely with Production, Supply Chain and other functions to encourage collaboration and facilitate best results
Engineering and Sustaining Capital Projects;
• Lead the ongoing implementation of Barrick’s Sustaining Capital Projects System (standards for managing sustaining capital projects)
• Develop or review critical technical engineering standards that apply across the organization
• Review capital allocation proposals as required
• Participate on the team that ensures operational readiness for major greenfields projects and brownfields expansions
• Assist in identifying and managing risks associated with maintenance, engineering and project work in new and existing operations
• Develop, review and support training for the Sustaining Capital Projects System and Project Manager in Action (PMiA) programs
• Participate in site operational and business reviews
People;
• Lead a team of engineering professionals and technical experts who support implementation of the Maintenance Management System and provide consulting services on demand to worldwide operations when needed
• Establish goals, provide coaching and identify training needs to assist team members in management of their career development
• Participate in the regional and site succession planning activities and set the criteria for recruitment and selection
• Develop and maintain a succession plan for the corporate maintenance and engineering group
General;
• Prepare and monitor annual departmental strategic plans and budget
• Ensure compliance with company EH&S policies and relevant regulations
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities;
• University degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
• Approximately 15 or more years of experience in senior operations and/or maintenance management roles
• Strong skills and experience in project and contract management
• Broad knowledge of the mining industry on both a technical and operational level
• Comprehensive knowledge and experience in the area of strategic business planning
• Excellent communication, influencing, coaching, collaboration, negotiation and presentation skills
• Experience operating in a collaborative matrix environment
• Well-developed leadership and people management skills as well as experience managing a team of professionals
• Preference will be given to candidates whom have comprehensive understanding of reliability centred maintenance (RCM) concepts and techniques
• Demonstrated success in implementing RCM techniques within a heavy industrial environment is also preferred
