The Barrick Technology Centre in Vancouver is presently seeking applications for the position of Mineralogist-Metal Deportment. This position will report to the leader of Mineralogy at the Barrick Technology Centre (BTC).
 
Responsibilities

Interact with Barrick metallurgical personnel to provide guidance on sampling requirements for a high quality quantitative metal deportment analysis with focus on diagnostics metallurgy for developing solutions to complex metallurgical problems and also for process plant optimization.
Coordinate deportment work at BTC with strong interaction with staff at specialized laboratories for mineral surface analysis, precious metals and deleterious trace element analysis using techniques such as dynamic SIMS, XPS, Laser Ablation and ToF-Sims.
Collate mineralogical data generated from a variety of sources and deliver timely, accurate and concise mineralogical reports and/or presentations.
Undertake internal and external cross checks to demonstrate the quality of the data produced.
Build and maintain relationships with senior corporate and mine site personnel thereby building a customer base who value the mineralogical data they receive.
Remain abreast of new developments and techniques in the field of mineralogy..
Be proactive in the application of Barrick safety and health commitments in all activities and ensure staff work in a safe manner
 
Required Skills

University degree in Science or Engineering.  Post graduate qualifications would be well regarded.
Proven track record in the generation of mineralogical data to improve metallurgical processes.
Ability to identify key ore types and properties that may influence processing techniques and use this knowledge to aid in sample selection
Knowledge of micro-analytical X-Ray methods, Laser-Ablation and ToF-SIMS techniques for the establishment of metal deportment profiles based on key ore types.
Ability to compile and interpret mineralogical data to provide metallurgical support
Operating knowledge of automated mineral analysis methods such as QEMSCAN or MLA.
The ability to focus on complex problems, identify an innovative solution and deliver timely results.
A proven communicator who is able to deliver technical information clearly and concisely.
