Barrick Kanowna has a strong presence in the Eastern-Goldfields of Western Australia centred around the city of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The Kanowna operation processes 2 million tonnes of refractory and free milling ore per annum from three underground mines in the region. It has significant exploration lease holdings and is one of the largest employers in the area.
Key responsibilities include:
Assist in the training and mentoring of junior Geologists;
Logging and interpretation of drilling data, ensuring that core is logged and processed by the team is done accurately, consistently and in a timely manner, and that the data entry, validation and QA/QC is of a high standard, to maintain the integrity of the drilling database;
Updating 3D models for structures, lithologies and known mineralised trends using datamine studio software;
Assisting in the updates of mineral resources estimates at Kanowna Belle mine;
Reviewing historic geological data and geological models, with a view to generating near mine drill targets;
Prioritising targets in relation to their prospectively , potential size and possible economic value to the company;
Designing and budgeting for diamond drill programs to test these areas.
Managing drilling contractor’s onsite;
Provide any additional support for the mine geology team as requested.
Experience & Requirements:
Degree qualified Bachelor of Science (Geology)
Demonstrated experience within the gold mining industry
Excellent communication and adminstrative skills
Self motivated, leadership and management skills
Understanding and recognition of mineralisation models and geological processes
Good working knowledge of mining software and geological databases, (Datamine and Acquire used on site)
